Job Summary

Role Overview

The Data Intern role focuses on supporting Shell’s U.S. Direct Tax team by developing a structured Tax Data Landscape for enterprise analytics and AI-driven transformation. Interns will document tax data flows, prepare AI-ready datasets, develop process documentation, and contribute to improving enterprise data governance while gaining practical experience with large-scale business data.

Selected candidates will work closely with Finance, Tax, and Technology teams while learning data modeling, SQL, Python, Power BI, SAP systems, ETL concepts, and AI/GenAI applications. The internship provides hands-on experience in enterprise data engineering, business intelligence, and digital transformation initiatives within a global organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and document tax-relevant data sources across SAP, tax tools, enterprise data platforms, and Excel-based models.
• Develop and maintain Tax Data Inventory and metadata repositories.
• Map end-to-end data lineage and business data flows.
• Create process maps and data flow diagrams for tax processes.
• Support development of standardized Tax Data Models and taxonomy.
• Analyze data quality issues and recommend validation rules and controls.
• Prepare structured datasets and documentation for AI and Generative AI use cases.
• Collaborate with Tax, Finance, and IT teams to gather business requirements and validate outputs.

Required Skills & Eligibility

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Analytics, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Knowledge of Power BI or Tableau.
• Basic understanding of SQL, Python, and data modeling concepts.
• Understanding of databases, ETL processes, and data structures.
• Exposure to SAP or enterprise systems is an advantage.
• Interest in Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, and data-driven transformation.
• Knowledge of data governance and data cataloging concepts is beneficial.
• Effective communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
• Indian Citizen or Permanent Resident.
